About Return to Duty Process
Return-to-Duty (RTD) process, mandated by the FMCSA under 49 CFR Part 40, is a structured program for drivers who test positive for drugs or alcohol. It involves evaluation by a Substance Abuse Professional (SAP), completion of recommended treatment or education, passing a return-to-duty drug and/or alcohol test, and follow-up testing to ensure compliance to resume DOT-regulated jobs.
